PCGS Coin Number: 7730
With a mintage of 36,209 pieces the 1843-D Liberty Head quarter eagle is the most generously produced quarter eagle from the Dahlonega Mint. All known examples feature a small date. The reverse is found with either a small mintmark (the more common issue) or a large mintmark. The mintage for the year saw extensive circulation and well-worn coins are the ones most commonly seen. This date can be found with relative ease in grades up through About Uncirculated. Many consider this date the most likely option for a type coin from the Dahlonega Mint. Mint State 1843-D quarter eagles are quite rare, however, with barely more than a dozen coins at that level. The finest certified examples include three in MS-63.
